Rev.
Simon Harris is a member of the General Council of the Assemblies of God,
Senior Pastor of the Ruimveldt Life Improvement Centre and Presbyter (Section
6) of the Assemblies of God in Guyana.
Rev. Harris holds a Bachelor of Arts in
Theology from the Caribbean School of Theology. He has submitted himself to
more than 15 years of Ministerial Training, which includes seven years at the
Assemblies of God Bible College, and five years at Caribbean School of
Theology.
Born 10th July, 1965 to Cartoonist
Hawley Harris and Homemaker Rhona Harris, Simon Douglas Harris is the youngest
of five siblings. Growing up in the heart of the city, Lombard Street,
Georgetown, Guyana. Simon was very sensitive to his environment and has
an acute disturbing memory from an early age.
At age two, he witnessed his very first
case of domestic violence in the streets of his community, a memory that
continues to shape the ‘why’ and ‘how’ in his worldview when counseling and
ministering on various topics, containing the Word of God.
In 1980, two years before completing
his secondary education at the North Ruimveldt Multilateral School in
Georgetown, he surrendered his life to Jesus Christ; accepting Him as Lord and
Savior. Eager to serve the Lord and know more about Jesus, he took up
membership at the Central Assembly of God (Diplomat Centre), where he served
and excelled under the pastorship of Rev. Dr. John Oswald Smith. Simon felt the
calling of God on his life to serve the body of Christ at age 16.
Throughout his life, Simon was constantly seen as a leader, whether it was
Class Prefect, Head Prefect or Boy Scouts Patrol Captain, Simon served with the
aura of a natural leader
He was part of the initial team sent to
share the Gospel in house group meetings in the East Ruimveldt community in
1980. He progressed through the ranks and moved from being House Group
Leader, to Sunday School Superintendent, to Deacon and then Assistant Pastor;
he is now the Senior Pastor for the Ruimveldt Life Improvement Centre Assembly
of God (R.L.I.C A.O.G) Church.
Reverend Harris has a heart for people
and his job satisfaction comes from seeing their lives being improved
spiritually, socially and economically. Alongside the wife of his youth
of 33 years Rev. Harris has seen the development of a thriving Ministry in the
Ruimveldt Community for 40 years, through Ministry of God’s Word, capacity
building projects, workshops and other educational development programs.
He has a very good sense of humor and
an artistic mind that draws on the ‘ruah’ of God. Rev. Simon Harris has used
this gift to effectively shape the community through the RLIC A.O.G, A church
that has become a household name throughout Guyana.
